Kazakh railways and China’s CCCC to speed up construction of Bakhty-Ayagoz lineKazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway operator, and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) have agreed to accelerate the construction of the Bakhty-Ayagoz line, KTZ said in a press release.During a meeting in Beijing, KTZ CEO Talgat Aldybergenov and CCCC President Zhang Bingnan stressed the need to ramp up mobilization, bring in additional resources, and improve worker accommodations."The Chinese side has committed to intensifying design work and earthworks in the shortest possible time," the press release says.The Bakhty-Ayagoz line is considered strategically important for expanding transport and logistics cooperation between Kazakhstan and China and enhancing the region’s transit potential.Construction of the 272-km double-track Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line began in December 2023 in the Abai region. The project includes the opening of a third border crossing with China, Bakhty-Chuguchak.Once completed, the Bakhty-Ayagoz line will boost annual freight capacity between Kazakhstan and China from 28 million to about 48 million tonnes. Completion is scheduled for late 2027.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan’s National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna.
