IRAQ LAUNCHES 5G TELECOM COMPANY

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani on Sunday oversaw the signing of the Articles of Incorporation for the National Mobile Telecommunications Company (NMTC), a public joint-stock company established under the government programme. The new entity brings together three contributors: the State Employees' Pension Fund, Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), and Al-Salam General Company of the Ministry of Communications. The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of Communications for its work and called for swift completion of procedures to enable the company to begin operations. The launch will coincide with the rollout of advanced 5G services across Iraq.Al-Sudani emphasised that the creation of the company represents a qualitative step forward in developing Iraq's telecommunications sector, enabling it to compete with existing operators and provide services vital to the economy, education, and ongoing national development. He highlighted that this is the first time three government entities have jointly established a mobile telecommunications provider, with future opportunities for citizens to subscribe to its capital. The initiative reflects the government's strategy to diversify Iraq's economy beyond oil while fostering competition to deliver improved services to the public. (ICE AMMAN)
