QUANTITY OF GOODS AT PORT OF BEIRUT INCREASED BY 14% YEAR-ON-YEAR IN H1-2025
According to the latest statistics released by the Port of Beirut (PoB), the quantity of goods increased by 14.2% year-on-year, reaching 3,066.0 thousand tons in the first half (H1) of 2025, up from 2,683.7 thousand tons in H1-2024. This increase follows a year-on-year expansion in tons of goods at PoB of 5.2% year-on-year between H1-2023 and H1-2024. Concurrently, the number of containers saw a yearly increase of 21.3%, totaling 317,526 containers in H1-2025, compared to 261,694 containers in the same period of the previous year. This increase follows a year-on-year decrease in the number of containers entering PoB of 1.5% year-on-year between H1-2023 and H1-2024. The quantity of goods that entered PoB in H1-2025 was the highest recorded during the period since the same period of 2019. Additionally, the number of containers that entered PoB in H1-2025 was the highest recorded since the same period of 2019, as per data from PoB. On the other hand, the number of ships decreased over the period, reaching 684 ships in H1-2025, compared to 770 ships in H1-2024, showing a year-on-year contraction of 11.2%. This decrease follows a year-on-year jump in the number of ships entering PoB of 22.4% year-on-year between H1-2023 and H1-2024. Transshipments at PoB recorded 88,103 containers in H1-2025, showing a year-on-year drop of 20.1% down from 110,265 containers in H-2024. This drop follows another year-on-year decrease in the number of transshipments entering PoB of 12.7% between H1-2023 and H1-2024. Looking at the recovery rate in the quantity of goods imported through PoB during the first half of 2025 against the same period of 2019, a rate of 87.3% is noted. This recovery rate is 10.9 percentage points higher than the one noted in H1-2024 and stands as the highest recorded recovery rate since the start of the crisis. This increase follows a year-on-year increase in the recovery rate of 3.8 percentage points between H1-2023 and H1-2024, as per data from PoB. Looking at the Port of Beirut’s performance in June 2025, the quantity of goods reported an increase of 7.3% year-on-year, reaching 516.2 thousand tons for the month, up from 481.3 thousand tons in the same month of the year prior. The number of containers noted a year-on-year expansion of 7.2%, recording 57,195 containers in June 2025, up from 53,373 containers in June 2024. On the other hand, transshipments through PoB noted a year-on-year drop of 22.2% between June 2024 and June 2025, reaching 18,340 containers in the latter down from 23,576 containers in the former. In parallel, the number of ships recorded at PoB during June 2025 reached 100 ships, marking a year-on-year decrease of 27.5%, downfrom 138 ships in the same month of the previous year, according to data from PoB.
