Jordan has digitised more than 1,600 government services and activated digital identities for 1.8 million citizens and residents as part of its national digital transformation plan. The plan, running through 2025, aims to build a sustainable digital economy, enhance public services, and support entrepreneurship, according to a Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship statement. The ministry noted that the progress so far includes a 70 per cent completion rate of the first phase of the strategy, the launch of the Sanad application offering over 500 services, and the rollout of digital tax invoicing and electronic passports. The government has also developed platforms such as Ajyal for education, a unified national record for services, and expanded open data, with more than 3,800 datasets now available to the public.Preparations are underway for the 2026–2028 national digital transformation strategy. The roadmap, developed in cooperation with consultancy firm Gartner and with input from public and private sector stakeholders, would focus on launching national digital platforms and further expanding open government data, the statement added.Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Engineer Sami Smeirat said during the weekly Government Communication Forum that entrepreneurship remains a central pillar of the strategy. “In the field of entrepreneurship, the first specialised training centre for e-sports and gaming has been launched in Amman, with additional centres planned in Irbid, Zarqa and Aqaba,” he said.Smeirat added that expanding government service centres is another priority. “Nine comprehensive service centres are now operational across the Kingdom, out of a planned 15 to be completed by the end of 2025. A total of 3.7 million government transactions have already been processed through these centres,” he explained.Highlighting support for start-ups, the minister noted: “Technical support has been provided to 50 start-ups under the national entrepreneurship policy projects, while the 2024 Jordan Hackathon for entrepreneurship was launched, incubating over 100 entrepreneurial ideas.”The national entrepreneurship strategy also aims to improve the business environment, reduce unemployment and poverty, and position Jordan as a regional innovation hub. Achievements to date include creating over 4,400 ICT sector jobs for graduates and supporting 260 start-ups.The Ministry of Government Communication said these initiatives are building an integrated digital ecosystem designed to enhance transparency, foster innovation, and stimulate economic growth.
