DIAGEO TO CLOSE ONTARIO BOTTLING PLANT, CUTTING 200 JOBS
Spirits maker Diageo will shut down its Crown Royal bottling facility in Amherstburg, Ont., in February, shifting operations to the U.S. to streamline its North American supply chain. About 200 jobs will be lost. “This was a difficult decision, but crucial to improving the efficiency and resiliency of our supply chain,” said Marsha McIntosh, Diageo’s president of North America supply. The company pledged to support affected employees in partnership with Unifor and engage with the local community. Diageo will retain a “significant” Canadian presence, with headquarters and warehouses in the GTA, plus bottling and distilling facilities in Manitoba and Quebec. Crown Royal will continue to be mashed, distilled, and aged in Canada. (ICE TORONTO)
