PHILIPPINE ECONOMIC GROWTH PREDICTED TO SLOW AMID GLOBAL CHALLENGES
PHILIPPINE economic growth will likely slow this year amid deteriorating global conditions and higher US tariffs, a Fitch Group unit said. BMI Country Risk & Industry Research said that it was keeping its 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast at 5.4 percent, below the government’s downwardly revised 5.5- to 6.5-percent target and the 5.7-percent result seen last year. “Global economic conditions will deteriorate in H2 (the second half), while we see little prospects for investment and private consumption to recover meaningfully,” it said in an Aug. 25 commentary. GDP growth — which edged up to 5.5 percent in the second quarter from 5.4 percent in January-March — will “stagnate” for the rest of the year, it added. https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/08/27/business/top-business/philippine-economic-growth-predicted-to-slow-amid-global-challenges/2174076 (ICE SINGAPORE)
