INDONESIA'S INDUSTRY MINISTER LAUNCHES CARBON CAPTURE PILOT TO CURB IMPORTS
Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has launched a pilot project to advance green industrial transformation through Carbon Capture Utilization (CCU) technology, with a hydrometallurgy-based system currently being implemented at PT Petrokimia Gresik. The initiative, supported by UWin Resources Regeneration Inc. and led by Prof. Kenny Hsu, aims to capture up to 65% of CO₂ emissions from flue gas and convert them into commercially valuable products like soda ash and baking soda—commodities that are still largely imported. The project aligns with Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2050 and is expected to generate economic value while reducing reliance on foreign imports. In addition to CCU, the Ministry is exploring microalgae-based carbon capture solutions that can produce biomass, green hydrogen, and cosmetic raw materials. Microalgae feed on CO₂ and offer promising downstream applications, contributing to both environmental goals and industrial diversification. The CCU system has already demonstrated a CO₂ reduction rate of over 99% in lab tests certified by TÜV Rheinland Taiwan. A formal MoU was signed in January 2025 between the Ministry, UWin Resources, and PT Petrokimia Gresik to scale the project, with performance data expected within two months.Source: https://kumparan.com/kumparanbisnis/tekan-impor-menperin-mulai-pilot-project-teknologi-carbon-capture-di-industri-25ieZ94XNKf/full (ICE GIACARTA)
