NATIONAL CARRIER MANAGER: THE PROJECT WILL PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL 40% OF DRINKING
The national carrier project will supply approximately 300 million cubic meters of potable water annually, representing a 40% increase by 2030, according to project manager Saddam Khleifat. Speaking to Al Mamlaka on the sidelines of specialized sectoral sessions within the Prime Minister's Economic Modernization Vision, Khleifat stressed that the national carrier project is a vital initiative that will enable investment and strengthen key economic sectors—particularly agriculture and tourism, which depend heavily on water availability. He explained that the project is being developed through a public–private partnership, with a consortium of international companies set to carry out the work. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with completion expected in four years. The project will then operate for 26 years before being transferred to Jordanian government ownership. He noted that preliminary work began last month, including necessary studies, soil testing, and updated environmental and social impact assessments. He added that financial closure is expected by the end of this year, paving the way for full-scale construction of the 450-kilometer transmission line, the Aqaba desalination plant, and renewable energy facilities in Quweira.
