LG INNOTEK INVESTS UP TO $50 MILLION IN AEVA TO EXPAND SENSING TECH MARKET
LG Innotek announced an investment of up to $50 million in U.S.-based Aeva Technologies, a Nasdaq-listed sensing technology firm, marking a strategic move to broaden applications of advanced perception technologies. The agreement includes equity, capital investment, and nondilutive funding to accelerate new product development. With this investment, LG Innotek will secure around 6 percent equity in Aeva. Beyond the capital injection, the two companies will jointly develop perception and sensing solutions to enter emerging sectors, such as consumer electronics, robotics, and industrial automation. Aeva has earned global recognition for pioneering frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW)-based 4D LiDAR, which enhances long-range object detection and has been mass-produced since 2022. Its clients include leading automakers such as Daimler Truck. The partnership aims to integrate Aeva’s FMCW perception platform into physical AI systems, allowing machines to perceive, understand, and interact more effectively with the physical environment. Automotive: LG Innotek will produce Aeva’s Ultra 4D LiDAR sensors for a program awarded by a top-10 global carmaker. Industrial automation: Both companies will co-develop perception products for indoor and outdoor industrial equipment. Robotics: They plan to deliver next-generation perception systems leveraging LG Innotek’s role as a key supplier of optical and LiDAR components. Consumer devices: Collaboration will also target applications in smartphones, tablets, smart appliances, and home robotics. Executives emphasized the long-term vision: “The ultimate goal of this partnership is to grow together as leaders in the next-generation LiDAR market through a long-term technology partnership,” said LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo. Aeva CEO Soroush Salehian added, “By leveraging FMCW sensing and proprietary software, we can enable machines to make faster, safer, and more intelligent decisions across industries.” LG Innotek stressed that this step is part of its broader ambition to strengthen its LiDAR portfolio and reinforce its position as a global mobility solutions provider.
