INDONESIA PLANS SELF-SUFFICIENCY ZONES FOR FOOD, WATER AND ENERGY

The Indonesian government is launching a national initiative to establish self-sufficiency zones for food, water, and energy, guided by Presidential Instruction No. 14/2025 and Presidential Decree No. 19/2025. Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, who chairs the task force involving 27 ministries and agencies, emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial coordination to streamline efforts and align with the 2026 national budget. The program targets strategic regions including Wanam in South Papua, Central and South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra, aiming to bolster long-term resource security through integrated infrastructure development. An initial allocation of IDR 8 trillion (US$510 million) has been earmarked for rice field development, though the funds remain undisbursed under the Ministry of Agriculture. Zulkifli stressed the need for prudent implementation in accordance with regulations. Beyond agriculture, the program will also support renewable energy infrastructure, reinforcing Indonesia’s broader sustainability goals. The initiative reflects a coordinated push to accelerate strategic resource development while ensuring efficient use of public funds.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/374541/indonesia-plans-self-sufficiency-zones-for-food-water-and-energy?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=desktop&utm_campaign=popular_right (ICE GIACARTA)
