IRAQ MOVES TO BOOST NON-OIL REVENUES
Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Sunday to discuss strategies for increasing Iraq's non-oil revenues and strengthening state finances.Attendees included the Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade, the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), and senior advisers and directors.The discussions focused on deploying modern technologies, digital systems, and automation to improve revenue collection and efficiency. Al-Sudani emphasised that economic development depends on optimising investment in high-return areas, alongside measures to rationalise spending and reduce waste.The meeting also reviewed revenue generation by the Ministry of Trade, including efforts to improve the quality of the Public Distribution System (PDS) food basket, management of wheat procurement and storage, and capacity planning for future harvests.Additionally, participants discussed increasing revenues from Baghdad Municipality through improved property and project management, as well as enhancing revenue collection in the electricity sector.
