INDONESIA RESUMES RICE AND CORN EXPORTS AFTER DECADES

Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia has resumed rice and corn exports for the first time in decades, marking a major milestone in the country’s food security efforts. Speaking at the Annual Session of the MPR and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD, he attributed this success to government programs implemented over the past 10 months, which have led to a rice production surplus and national reserves exceeding 4 million tons — the highest in Indonesian history. Farmers are reportedly benefiting from stable prices and increased incomes, supported by a raised purchase price of unhusked rice set at Rp6,500 per kilogram. To further reduce import dependence, the government is expanding agricultural land across multiple regions, including Central and West Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Papua. Prabowo emphasized rural empowerment, improved fertilizer distribution, and equipment support as key strategies to intensify food production. He also pledged strict enforcement against fraudulent practices in the food sector, such as mislabeling and stockpiling, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring fair market practices.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/373617/indonesia-resumes-rice-corn-exports-after-decades-prabowo?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=desktop&utm_campaign=top_news (ICE GIACARTA)
