INDONESIA STRENGTHENS TIES WITH TRINA SOLAR TO ADVANCE DOMESTIC SOLAR ENERGY ECO

Indonesia is intensifying efforts to develop its domestic solar energy ecosystem through strategic partnerships, notably with Chinese solar PV giant Trina Solar. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized the country's vast solar potential—estimated at over 3,000 GWp—and the importance of reducing reliance on imported components. Central to this initiative is PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia (TMAI), a joint venture operating in the Kendal SEZ, which houses Indonesia’s first tier-1 integrated solar cell and module plant. With current production capacity at 1 GWp and plans to expand to 3 GW, TMAI is expected to accelerate industrial downstreaming and support both horizontal and vertical integration of the solar supply chain, including upstream wafer and polysilicon development. The collaboration with Trina Solar also aims to facilitate technology transfer, adoption of IoT-based systems, and deployment of battery energy storage solutions. These efforts align with President Prabowo Subianto’s ambitious goal of building 100 GW of solar power capacity, including village-scale projects under the Village Cooperative scheme. By leveraging foreign investment and advanced technologies, Indonesia seeks to meet rising energy demand, enhance energy security, and position itself as a regional leader in the energy transition. Despite its vast potential, only 912 MW of solar energy had been utilized as of December 2024, underscoring the urgency of scaling up domestic production and infrastructure.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5008/energy-and-resources/indonesia-trina-solar-expand-partnership-to-boost-domestic-solar-energy-ecosystem  (ICE GIACARTA)
