CIMA+ TO STUDY MICROPLASTICS IN DRINKING WATER
CIMA+ is partnering with the University of Toronto (U of T) on a major research project to examine the presence and behaviour of microplastics in drinking water distribution systems.Funded by the Water Research Foundation (WRF), the study is the first of its kind to be conducted in Ontario. It will be carried out over the next 1.5 years and is sponsored by Ontario’s Union Water Supply System (UWSS), the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) and the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA). CIMA+ will work with U of T’s drinking water research group, part of the school’s department of civil and mineral engineering. The study aims to help water utilities prepare for new regulatory requirements relating to microplastics by better understanding sampling protocols and monitoring strategies.“This project highlights the depth of expertise within our water team and our collaborative spirit as we work alongside multiple sectors and institutions,” says Michael McKie, principal investigator and project manager at CIMA+. “It’s an exciting opportunity to generate practical insights that will help utilities.” (ICE TORONTO)
