SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS SUPPLIES SEMICONDUCTOR CHIPS TO APPLE, FOLLOWING TESLA
Samsung Electronics is now supplying semiconductor chips to Apple, following its recent deal with Tesla. Apple announced in a press release on the 6th (local time) that “We are working with Samsung at Samsung’s semiconductor factory in Austin, Texas, USA to develop an innovative new chip manufacturing technology that will be used for the first time in the world.” Apple added that the technology will be introduced first in the United States, enabling it to supply chips that optimize power efficiency and performance for Apple products, including iPhones, shipped worldwide. Reuters reported that this statement was part of Apple’s announcement to increase its U.S. investment by $100 billion, raising its total investment in the country to $600 billion over the next four years. On July 28, Samsung Electronics announced it had signed a semiconductor foundry supply contract worth 22.7648 trillion won with a major global company. Tesla CEO Elon Musk later revealed that Tesla was the counterparty to the deal. Following the news, Samsung Electronics' stock price rose more than 2% on the alternative exchange on the morning of the 7th and is currently trading above 70,000 won. (ICE SEOUL)
