KARNATAKA AND SIA COLLABORATE TO ESTABLISH RS 10-CR CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR SPACE TECHNOLOGY

The Karnataka state government in India and the Singapore-based Spaceflight Inc. (SIA) have agreed to establish a Rs 10-crore space technology center of excellence. This initiative aims to promote space technology in the region by encouraging research, innovation, and skills development. The center will be the first of its kind in the state, contributing significantly to the growing space industry in India.The center will focus on four key areas: satellite communication, navigation, earth observation, and space exploration. It will provide students and young professionals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and conduct research in these fields. The state-of-the-art facility will be equipped with advanced technology and tools, allowing participants to develop and test their ideas.The agreement was facilitated by the Karnataka Innovation & Technology Society (KITS), the nodal agency of the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Karnataka. KITS will oversee the center’s operations, ensuring that it adheres to international standards and promotes best practices in space technology research and development.The collaboration between the Karnataka state government and SIA aligns with India’s broader objectives to expand its space industry. Over the past decade, India has made significant strides in space technology, launching numerous satellites and becoming a global player in the industry. The establishment of the center will enhance the country’s capabilities, fostering innovation and contributing to the growth of the space sector.Notably, the center will also provide a platform for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to test and validate their space-related products and services.
