UKRAINE’S INFLATION RATE EDGES DOWN WITH FIRST MONTHLY DECLINE IN TWO YEARS

In July, Ukraine’s consumer prices fell by 0.2% compared to June — the first monthly decrease in two years, according to the State Statistics Service. Annual inflation slowed to 14.1%, down from 14.3% in June.Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices dropped by 1.1%, driven by a 23.9% fall in vegetable prices and a 2.8% decline in sugar. However, prices for fruits, eggs, pasta, meat and meat products, non-alcoholic beverages, lard, bread, fish, cheese, rice, grain products, sunflower oil, milk, and dairy products rose by 0.3–1.7%.Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose in price by 1.8%, mainly due to a 2.6% increase in tobacco prices. Clothing and footwear became cheaper by 4.6% (clothing down 5.2%, footwear down 4.0%).Transport prices increased by 1.6%, largely because of a 4.1% rise in fuel and lubricant costs. (ICE KIEV)
