INDONESIA'S H1-2025 VEHICLE IMPORTS TOP US$5 BILLION, UP 31%
Indonesia saw a significant rise in vehicle and auto parts imports during the first half of 2025, reaching US$5.35 billion—a 31.29% year-on-year (yoy) increase from US$4.07 billion in the same period of 2024. The import volume surged by 38.21% to 800,000 tons, yet the average unit value declined by 5.92% to $6.68 million per ton, suggesting more cost-efficient sourcing. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) linked this surge to a broader increase in capital goods imports, which rose 20.90% yoy to US$23 billion, largely driven by automotive purchases. Despite the rise in imports, Indonesia’s automotive export sector also showed growth. According to Gaikindo, national automotive association, the country exported 233,648 completely built-up cars in the first half of 2025, marking a 7% yoy increase. These exports reached over 90 countries, supported by the presence of foreign-backed car assembly plants such as Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, which operates five factories, some dedicated to export markets. This dual trend of rising imports and exports reflects Indonesia’s deepening integration into global automotive supply chains.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias-h12025-vehicle-imports-top-5-billion-up-31 (ICE GIACARTA)
