VIỆT NAM TO PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT OF HALAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Vietnam is drafting a decree to enhance the quality management of halal products and services, spearheaded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). The decree outlines support for Vietnamese halal certification organisations to strengthen their capacity, gain international recognition, and have their certification results accepted in key export markets. The government will actively negotiate international agreements to promote Vietnamese halal products and services, integrate halal market development into national trade promotion efforts, and support businesses in attending global halal trade fairs. Reputable halal businesses may be included in the Vietnam National Brand Programme to boost their international visibility. Financial support measures are proposed, including preferential interest rates for halal production investments, and partial funding for initial certification and halal quality management systems. These supports will be embedded in SME, industrial promotion, and science and technology programmes. The decree also provides funding for laboratories and certification agencies to acquire halal-compliant testing equipment and pursue international accreditation. A public, transparent national halal database will be developed to ensure businesses have access to accurate legal and technical information. Additionally, the government aims to build stable halal supply chains by supporting cooperative models and pilot production links to ease access to certification and reduce operational costs. Feedback on the draft is currently being collected. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
