INDONESIA EYES 70% RENEWABLE ENERGY SHARE AFTER 2030 DESPITE COAL RELIANCE

Indonesia is pushing to significantly increase its renewable energy share, targeting 70% of its power sector after 2030. The nation's 2025-2034 plan aims to add 42.6 GW of renewable capacity, which would raise renewables' share to 35% by 2034. However, progress is slow, with renewables accounting for only 14% of the energy mix in 2025. To meet its climate goals, Indonesia still relies heavily on coal, which makes up 40% of its current energy mix. The country faces major challenges, including a need for up to $2.4 trillion in funding and a high fiscal burden from energy subsidies. Despite these hurdles, Indonesia remains committed to achieving long-term energy sustainability.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-eyes-70-renewable-energy-share-after-2030-despite-coal-reliance (ICE GIACARTA)
