HÀ NỘI CONSIDERS INSTALLING EV CHARGING STATIONS AT PARKING LOTS
Hà Nội Parking Company has identified 40 inner-city parking lots suitable for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in preparation for the city’s planned ban on gasoline-powered motorbikes within Ring Road 1, set to begin in July 2026. Of over 150 parking lots managed by the company, the goal is to equip at least 10% with EV charging stations. Deputy Director Nguyễn Đức Vinh emphasized that implementation depends heavily on whether power providers can ensure sufficient electrical infrastructure. Two options are being considered: either V-Green Global Charging Station Development JSC fully installs the stations, or Hà Nội Parking Company does. A final decision has yet to be made. Approval from the Department of Construction and the municipal People’s Committee will be required, especially for stations located on sidewalks or public roads. Among the 40 identified locations, four lie within Ring Road 1. Two stations will be installed by August on Trần Khát Chân Street and in front of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines building. The other two sites are pending due to Ring Road 1 expansion work. Currently, V-Green has installed a large EV charging site at 133 Dịch Vọng Street. With 600,000 residents and nearly 450,000 gasoline motorbikes in the target area, Hà Nội is also exploring policies to help residents switch to electric motorbikes. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
