CONSTRUCTION PERMITS FROM OEAB INCREASE BY 16% IN H1-2025

Construction permits in the first half (H1) of 2025 increased by 16.1% against figures from the same period of the year prior, as per figures from the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut (OEAB).  Construction permits for H1-2025 actually increased to 2,826,763 m2, up from 2,434,966 m2 in H1-2024.  In details, looking at the regional distribution of construction permits in H1-2025, Mount Lebanon took the lion’s share with 45.2% of total reaching 1,278,086 m2 during the half-year. South Lebanon followed with 25.4% of total (718,989 m2) in H1-2025. The Bekaa and Nabatiyeh regions followed with 12.1% (343,085 m2) and 11.3% (318,608 m2) of total construction permits respectively during the period. The region of Beirut had a contribution of 4.9% (137,941m2) of total followed by North Lebanon with a contribution of 1.1% (30,054 m2) of total.  This increase in construction permits was due to increases in construction permits in all regions ranging from 4.3% to 48.4% between H1-2024 and H1-2025. The increase was partially offset by a decrease of 28.4% in construction permits in the Bekaa.  Additionally, at the level of the distribution of direct execution order transactions by type, the majority of direct execution orders came for residential buildings (1,039 orders or 44.9% of the total) in H1-2025.  Single dwellings and trade-related buildings & offices followed with contributions of 43.0% (995 orders) and 5.9% (136 orders) respectively during the period. Economic sector buildings accounted for 3.5% (81 orders) of the total while other projects consisted of 2.8% of the total (65 orders) in H1-2025, as per data from OEAB. (ICE BEIRUT)
