TRADE GAP WIDENS AS IMPORTS REBOUND
THE country’s trade deficit rose to $3.95 billion in June from a month earlier as imports recovered and exports growth surged, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Wednesday. The shortfall rose from $3.63 billion in May but was narrower than the year-earlier $4.33 billion. Total merchandise trade for June amounted to $18 billion, down from $18.26 billion a month earlier but higher than the year-ago $15.47 billion. Exports surged by 26.1 percent to $7.02 billion from $5.57 billion while imports grew 10.8 percent to $10.97 billion from $9.90 billion. Growth improved from the 15.5-percent rise for exports and 1.1-percent imports drop in May. Imports accounted for 61.0 percent of total external trade while exports comprised the remaining 39.0 percent, the PSA said. https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/07/31/business/top-business/trade-gap-widens-as-imports-rebound/2159083 (ICE SINGAPORE)
