MINING REMAINS INDONESIA’S ECONOMIC BACKBONE AMID GLOBAL UNCERTAINTY
Indonesia’s mining sector contributed 12% to GDP in 2024, up from 10.5% in 2023, showing resilience across multiple crises. Nickel remains a key driver, with 2.2 million tonnes produced—over half of global supply—and IDR 153.2 trillion (EUR 8 billion) invested, making up 62% of total mineral sector investment. The sector also supports energy needs, with coal generating 60% of electricity. Major sites like the Grasberg mine continue to deliver, producing 1.5 billion pounds of copper and 1.7 million ounces of gold in 2023.
