ITALY AND LITHUANIA STRENGTHEN COOPERATION AGAINST ECONOMIC CRIME
Last week, Italy’s Ambassador to Lithuania, Emanuele de Maigret, and Guardia di Finanza Chief of Staff Giuseppe Arbore were received in Vilnius by the Lithuanian Minister of the Interior, Wladyslaw Kondratowicz, for a high‑level institutional meeting focused on reinforcing bilateral cooperation in the fight against economic crime. The discussions centered on the enhancement of operational collaboration between Lithuanian and Italian law‑enforcement authorities, with a specific focus on tackling smuggling, money laundering, and transnational economic crimes. Both sides emphasized the importance of agile and coordinated responses in addressing these complex criminal networks.A key outcome of the meeting was the announcement of the upcoming deployment of Guardia di Finanza Colonel Scilli Bellomo to the Italian Embassy in Vilnius. Starting this autumn, Colonel Bellomo will be responsible for analyzing and coordinating joint actions to further strengthen operational effectiveness in the field. For Italian businesses, stronger joint enforcement against smuggling and money‑laundering should foster a safer and more transparent environment for legitimate trade and investment.
