HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO) has proposed establishing a 40-hectare innovation, R&D, and trading centre for fashion materials to strengthen the domestic supply chain and boost competitiveness in Việt Nam’s leather, footwear, textile, and garment industries.At a Government meeting on July 22, LEFASO Vice Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Thanh Xuân highlighted the sector’s dependence on imported materials and emphasised the need for local raw material development to attract orders and ensure long-term growth.The initiative, supported by the Textile and Apparel and Timber associations, seeks Government backing and breakthrough policies. Xuân cited China’s success with similar centres and called on Vietnamese trade offices abroad to help gather best practices. The proposed centre would diversify material sources, promote design and business innovation, and potentially supply regional markets like Indonesia, Cambodia, and Bangladesh, helping Việt Nam build a self-sufficient fashion supply chain. — BIZHUB (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
