Georgia-Kazakhstan trade turnover surged 35.7% to $75.2 mln in Jan-MayThe trade turnover between Georgia and Kazakhstan reached $75.2 million in January-May 2025, a 35.7% increase YoY, the press service of the Kazakh government reported.According to the press service, on Monday, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili. The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including the development of trade and investment, the implementation of infrastructure projects, the expansion of transport and logistics links (including within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route - TITR), and the increase in agro-industrial trade turnover."The meeting focused on strengthening transport and logistics cooperation. In the first half of 2025, the volume of railway freight transportation between the countries exceeded 159,500 tonnes, which is 67% more than in the same period in 2024. The trade turnover between the two countries in January-May 2025 amounted to $75.2 million, which is 35.7% increase year-over-year," stated the message disseminated following the meeting.The parties noted that an important step in the development of the TITR was the launch of a new Kazakh container terminal in the Georgian port of Poti. Built by PTC Holding, the terminal has a design capacity of 120,000 TEU per year. This is the first Kazakh infrastructure project implemented in one of Georgia's key maritime hubs.Furthermore, the possibilities of expanding the capacity of the Batumi oil terminal and port were discussed, as well as increasing supplies of Kazakh agricultural products – grain, flour, meat and dairy products, and confectionery – to the Georgian market.For her part, Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the importance of expanding partnership with Kazakhstan in the spheres of trade, tourism, and logistics infrastructure. She also highlighted the significance of strengthening tourism ties, stimulating economic growth, and developing the transport network. (ICE ALMATY)
