PUBLIC DEBT SERVICE IN JORDAN TO INCREASE BY 14.4% IN 2024
The annual National Payments System report, issued by the Central Bank of Jordan, revealed a 14.4% rise in public debt service in 2024 compared to 2023. According to the report, the total value of public debt service last year reached approximately JOD 4.8 billion, up from JOD 4.2 billion in 2023. This figure includes interest payments on public debt issuances amounting to JOD 1.1 billion, compared to JOD 997 million the previous year. Additionally, the value of public debt instrument issuances in the local market rose to about JOD 5.5 billion in 2024, up from JOD 5.2 billion in 2023, marking a 6% increase. These issuances comprise bonds, treasury bills, sukuk, and other debt instruments used to meet the government’s financing needs. (ICE AMMAN)
