JORDAN'S PAYMENTS SECTOR EXPERIENCED A SIGNIFICANT LEAP IN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATIO

Jordan's payments sector experienced a significant leap in digital transformation last year, according to the National Payments System Report issued by the Central Bank of Jordan. The report highlights substantial growth in the use of electronic payment and money transfer systems by both individuals and businesses. Reviewed by Al Mamlaka, the report attributes this progress to advancements in financial technology, investments in digital infrastructure, and the modernization of legislative and regulatory frameworks. These developments have enhanced operational efficiency, increased transparency, and supported the Kingdom’s broader goals of financial inclusion. The report reveals that 84% of all payment transactions were conducted through electronic channels, while cash transactions accounted for just 16%—a clear indicator of the shift toward a cashless society. As of last year, the number of ATMs in Jordan stood at 2,432, while electronic points of sale reached 93,926, with 73% supporting QR code technology. Additionally, the number of registered e-commerce merchants rose to 2,298. (ICE AMMAN)
