Kazakhstan boosts pharmaceutical production by 22% - Health MinistryThe volume of pharmaceutical production in Kazakhstan increased by 22% in 2024, reaching 171.6 billion tenge, the Ministry of Health reports.Investment in the pharmaceutical sector doubled during the reporting period, to $91.3 million. Exports of Kazakh pharmaceutical products grew by 32.9%, reaching $52.1 million, according to a Ministry of Health statement released on Monday.To ensure sustainable medicine supply for the population, the Ministry of Health concluded 90 long-term contracts, valid for up to 10 years, with 34 domestic manufacturers for the supply of 2 million 466 types of medicines.Furthermore, agreements for contract manufacturing have been signed with leading international pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Hoffmann-La Roche, and AstraZeneca.According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 207 domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers operating in Kazakhstan (compared to 193 in 2023), of which 43 specialize in producing medicines and 164 in manufacturing medical devices.In early June this year, Chairman of Kazakhstan's Supreme Audit Chamber, Alikhan Smailov, reported financial violations totaling 741 million tenge uncovered during a 2024-2025 state audit of the pharmaceutical supply sector. Specifically, the sole distributor delayed the procurement of 207 drugs and failed to procure 164 drugs intended for outpatient care. (ICE ALMATY)
