ITALY'S ENI KEEN TO INVEST US$10 BILLION IN EAST KALIMANTAN'S NATURAL GAS FIELDS

Italian energy giant Eni plans to invest US$10 billion (around Rp150 trillion) in developing offshore natural gas fields—Jangkrik and Merakes—in East Kalimantan’s Makassar Strait, with production slated to begin in 2027. The initiative is aimed at increasing Indonesia’s natural gas output to meet domestic demand and strengthen LNG export capabilities. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia highlighted the strategic value of the investment, noting Eni’s global stature and technical expertise across over 70 countries since its founding in Rome in 1953. Amid a turbulent global economic landscape marked by conflict and tariff tensions, Eni’s commitment is viewed as a diplomatic and economic win for Indonesia. Indonesia's Minister Lahadalia emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts successfully lowered U.S. import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%, improving trade conditions. The Eni project is expected to boost local employment, stimulate regional development, and generate increased provincial revenues through the proposed transfer of participating interest (PI) to East Kalimantan’s government.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/367681/italian-company-to-invest-us10-billion-in-e-kalimantans-gas-fields?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_categoryhttps://en.tempo.co/read/2030564/italys-eni-keen-to-invest-us10bn-in-east-kalimantans-natural-gas-fields (ICE GIACARTA)
