INDONESIA' INDUSTRY MINISTER ADDRESSES US, IEU-CEPA TARIFFS AND THEIR IMPACT

Indonesia' s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said the U.S. decision to cut tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19% will boost export competitiveness, especially in labor-intensive sectors like textiles and footwear. This is expected to increase industrial utilization, job creation, and strengthen the national manufacturing structure. In 2024, Indonesia exported US$26.31 billion to the U.S., with a trade surplus of US$14.34 billion. With industrial utilization at 65.3%, Agus sees room for increased production to meet rising demand. He also emphasized the importance of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), which is close to finalization. The deal is expected to ease export barriers and boost access to European markets, further strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian manufacturing. Agus believes these trade agreements will enhance the country’s industrial ecosystem and support President Prabowo’s goal of 8% economic growth by 2029.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/menperin-bicara-soal-tarif-trump-dan-ieu-cepa-begini-dampaknya-ke-industri (ICE GIACARTA)
