KAZAKHSTAN-GRAIN/PROCESSING-SUBSIDIES

Kazakhstan weighs subsidies for grain processors after U.S. tariff hikeKazakhstan is considering subsidies for domestic grain processors in response to new U.S. tariffs on Kazakh exports, the Ministry of Agriculture told Interfax-Kazakhstan.The ministry noted that more than 60% of domestically produced wheat gluten was previously exported to the U.S. The 25% tariffs have restricted access to this key market, creating significant challenges for the grain processing industry."The ministry has prepared draft legislation to subsidize wheat purchases for gluten production, ensuring our value-added grain products remain competitive," a ministry spokesperson said.Existing subsidy rules for processing costs, established in 2014, currently exclude wheat procurement for gluten manufacturing.Officials emphasized that demand for high-value grain-based products, such as gluten, starch syrups, amino acids and biopolymers, continues to rise in domestic and global markets. Advanced processing technologies can yield over 200 products from grain, with some derivatives valued at 10 times the price of raw materials. (ICE ALMATY)
