MRT JAKARTA TO LAUNCH TENDER FOR $3B EAST-WEST LINE IN Q4

MRT Jakarta plans to open an international tender in the fourth quarter of 2025 for the first stage of its Rp 50 trillion (US$3.1 billion) east-west line. This initial 24.5 km stretch will connect Tomang in West Jakarta to Medan Satria in Bekasi. The project is financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with co-financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), so Japanese firms will be prioritized in the tender, though Indonesian companies can participate through joint operations. A contract signing is targeted for 2026, with construction beginning shortly after, and commercial operations expected by 2032. This east-west line is part of a larger 87 km plan, eventually connecting Balaraja in Banten to Cikarang in West Java, with 21 stations and a depot. This will complement the existing north-south line, which is also being extended. Japan has reiterated its support for the east-west line but has no immediate plans for further extensions into Greater Jakarta beyond current priorities. (ICE GIACARTA)
