Kazakhstan aims to produce nearly 148,000 vehicles in 2025Kazakhstan plans to manufacture nearly 148,000 vehicles in 2025, the country’s government press service announced.During a Thursday meeting of the Economic Growth Task Force, Deputy Minister of Industry and Construction Olzhas Sarbekov said that the automotive industry accounts for about 41% of the nation’s mechanical engineering output. He stated that production is expected to reach 147,824 vehicles this year but noted that "the industry has all the necessary conditions to exceed this target."Sarbekov mentioned that this year will see the commissioning of a multi-brand plant in Almaty (producing Changan, Haval and Chery vehicles) and a KIA plant in Kostanay."The commissioning of new facilities will significantly increase the production of semi-knock-down (SKD) vehicles, allowing for an expanded model lineup and strengthening the domestic auto industry," the press service quoted Sarbekov as saying.Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin instructed the Ministry of Trade and Integration to expedite the issuance of necessary permits to ensure the timely start of mass production for new models. The under-construction KIA plant in Kostanay is one of the country’s largest automotive projects, with an annual capacity of around 70,000 vehicles. Investors have allocated 90 billion tenge for the project, with its launch scheduled for October 2025.In late 2022, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev kicked off a project for the construction of an Almaty-based plant for Changan, Chery and Haval vehicles, with investments exceeding 100 billion tenge.
