FSSAI ASKS LICENSING AUTHORITIES FOR THOROUGH SCRUTINY OF ANNUAL RETURNS BY FBOS

The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in a communication to the state food safety commissioners has asked for strict scrutiny of annual returns by Food Business Operators (FBOs) and action under the provisions of Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 in case of discrepancies or inconsistencies in the disclosures. FBOs have been mandated to file annual returns capturing key information including mandatory production details and non-mandatory compliance related data online through the FoSCoS platform since FY2020-21, and there has been steady improvement in the rate of annual returns filing by FBOs in the last five years. The authority also gives FBOs an opportunity to review, revise and update the information they furnished and rectify discrepancies online itself from January 2024. (ICE NEW DELHI)
