INDONESIA SEEKS TO TAP GLOBAL MARKET WITH ESSENTIAL OIL DOWNSTREAMING
Indonesia's Industry Ministry is actively promoting downstreaming of the domestic essential oil sector to tap into a growing global market, which saw a 10% increase in value in 2024 due to rising demand for eco-conscious products. With Indonesia ranking eighth in global exports—yet primarily shipping raw materials—the ministry emphasizes adding value through local processing. Commodities like patchouli and clove, widely used in global perfumery and wellness products, are highlighted as key assets alongside nutmeg oil, sandalwood, and citronella. The sector holds notable social and economic potential, with over 200,000 workers—many from MSMEs and small farms—and some 3,000 distillation units spread across regions like Aceh, Maluku, and Papua. The ministry views the industry not just as export-driven, but also as a tool for rural empowerment and industrial competitiveness.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/365185/ri-seeks-to-tap-global-market-with-essential-oil-downstreaming?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
