IMF: NEPCO'S LOSSES DECLINE TO 1.1% OF GDP
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that the Jordanian government is continuing to make progress in improving the financial sustainability of the electricity sector, supported by the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Resilience and Sustainability Instrument (RSI). According to the report, translated by Al Mamlaka, the financial losses of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) declined to 1.1% of GDP in 2024, an improvement from the previously forecasted 1.3%. This positive development reflects enhanced financial performance resulting from the implementation of corrective measures. The report also noted that NEPCO met its performance benchmarks related to the settlement of arrears by the end of December 2024 and March 2025, as part of continued efforts to reduce financial backlogs in the electricity sector.
