Kazakhstan's Grain Union raises flaxseed export forecast to 530,000 tonnesKazakhstan could export 530,000 tonnes of flaxseed in the 2024/2025 agricultural year, forecasts Evgeny Karabanov, Head of the Analytics Committee of the republic's Grain Union."We are increasing the forecast for flaxseed exports from Kazakhstan in the current season by 30,000 tonnes, to 530,000 tons, with minimal carry-over stocks at the end of the season of 30,000 tonens," Karabanov wrote in his Telegram channel.In May this year, flaxseed exports from Kazakhstan amounted to 39,600 tonnes, which is 12% more than in April.Total exports for the first 9 months of the current agricultural year (September 2024 - May 2025) reached 453,200 tonnes. This is twice as much as the same period last agricultural year and 50% higher than the entire previous agricultural year.Karabanov noted a significant increase in exports to the EU compared to the same period last agricultural year. He stated this is linked to the EU's increase in customs duties on Russian flax.The flax sown area in Kazakhstan increased by 30% this year, reaching 1.19 million hectares. According to Karabanov, the main reasons for the increase in planting area are demand from buyers and the crop's high profitability.The analyst noted that weather conditions are favorable for crop development.
