South Africa has excluded Vietnam from provisional safeguard tariffs on corrosion-resistant steel coil imports, as Vietnam's share falls below the 3% threshold required under WTO rules. The announcement, made by the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam, means local exporters can continue shipments to the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) market without facing the proposed 52.34% duty. The investigation, covering imports from May 2021 to April 2024, was officially reinitiated in January 2025. Preliminary findings from South Africa’s International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) cited a sharp 17.16% rise in imports—mainly from China—as the primary reason for injury to the domestic industry.
