Tokayev calls for equitable water sharing with neighboring countriesKazakhstan advocates for fair and sustainable use of water resources and hopes to maintain constructive dialogue with neighboring nations, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said."Kazakhstan stands for rational, just and equitable water usage, as well as adherence to mutual commitments to ensure water security and stability across the region. We hope to continue constructive dialogue and cooperation with the neighboring countries in the interest of all parties," Tokayev said during a meeting with water management specialists in Astana on Wednesday.The president stressed the need to strengthen water diplomacy and develop skilled professionals in the field."A key priority is cooperation with the neighboring states to establish an effective water management system for transboundary river basins," he added.Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan's proposal to create a Central Asian Water-Energy Consortium, citing successful regional collaboration last year that ensured sufficient water supplies for the country's agricultural sector."Thanks to close cooperation with the regional partners, our farmers were fully provided with necessary water resources last year. Similar efforts must be made this year as well," the president said.Head of state highlighted Kazakhstan's participation in multilateral initiatives addressing water scarcity, including solutions that the republic voiced at a special summit in Saudi Arabia.Kazakhstan country will host a Regional Environmental Summit under the UN auspices next year to further advance water security measures.
