EGYPT ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY, CIVIL SOCIETY PARTNER TO PROTECT NATURE RESERVES

The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the Marine Environment Protection Foundation, signed of a cooperation protocol aimed at strengthening partnerships with civil society and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, who witnessed the signing, said the protocol seeks to raise environmental awareness—particularly regarding marine conservation—enhance environmental monitoring systems, support the protection of nature reserves, and raise awareness against illegal fishing. It also promotes ecotourism and the role of protected areas through seminars, awareness campaigns, and environmental camps.Under the agreement, the EEAA will provide technical support and approve environmental activity plans, while the foundation will be responsible for organising activities, encouraging citizen participation, and implementing income-generating small projects in protected areas at its own expense.Fouad added that the foundation will host workshops, awareness events, and camps, and implement small-scale development projects in local communities within reserves to raise environmental awareness and improve livelihoods.
