THREE SOLUTIONS TO HELP E-COMMERCE SELLERS ADAPT TO NEW TAX REGULATIONS

With Việt Nam’s new tax regulations for e-commerce sellers taking effect on July 1, small businesses must quickly adapt to avoid profit erosion and compliance issues. Nguyễn Mạnh Tấn of the Việt Nam E-commerce Association advised three key strategies: (1) regularly track financials, including platform fees and post-tax profits, to maintain transparency and detect cost fluctuations; (2) restructure product portfolios to focus on higher-margin items—especially those priced above VNĐ250,000—to offset new tax burdens; and (3) adopt multi-channel sales strategies to diversify revenue streams and retain greater control over customer engagement. E-commerce platforms like Shopee and TikTok Shop are assisting sellers through guidance, workshops, and standardized data collection for tax declaration. Under the new law, platforms must withhold and remit taxes on behalf of sellers: 1% VAT and 0.5% personal income tax for goods, and higher rates for services. Effective adaptation combining cost management, product repositioning, and sales diversification will be critical for sustainable growth. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
