QUANTITY OF GOODS AT PORT OF BEIRUT INCREASED BY 18% YEAR-ON-YEAR IN 4M 2025
According to the latest statistics released by the Port of Beirut (PoB), the quantity of goods increased by 18.2% year-on-year, reaching 1963.5 thousand tons in the first four months (4M) of 2025, up from 1,661.0 thousand tons in 4M 2024. This increase follows a year-on-year expansion in tons of goods at PoB of 0.8% year-on-year between 4M 2023 and 4M 2024. Concurrently, the number of containers saw a yearly increase of 22.7%, totaling 193,590 containers in 4M 2025, compared to 157,743 containers in the same period of the previous year. This increase follows a year-on-year decrease in the number of containers entering PoB of 6.5% year-on-year between 4M 2023 and 4M 2024, as per data from PoB. The quantity of goods that entered PoB in 4M 2025 was the highest recorded during the four month period since 2019. Additionally, the number of containers that entered PoB in 4M 2025 was the highestrecorded since 2019. On the other hand, the number of ships decreased over the period, reaching 465 ships in 4M 2025, compared to 515 ships in 4M 2024, showing a year-on-year contraction of 9.7%. This decrease follows a year-on-year jump in the number of ships entering PoB of 27.8% year-on-year between 4M 2023 and 4M 2024. Transshipments at PoB recorded 57,847 containers in 4M 2025, showing a year-on-year drop of 14.8% down from 67,918 containers in 4M 2024. This drop follows another year-on-year decrease in the number of transshipments entering PoB of 9.1% year-on-year between 4M 2023 and 4M 2024. Looking at the recovery rate in the quantity of goods imported through PoB during the first four months of 2025 against the same period of 2019, a rate of 83.6% is noted. This recovery rate is 12.9 percentage points higher than the one noted in 4M 2024 and stands as the highest recorded recovery rate since the start of the crisis. This increase follows a year-on-year marginal increase in the recovery rate of 0.5 percentage points between 4M 2023 and 4M 2024, as per data from PoB. Looking at the Port of Beirut’s performance in April 2025, the quantity of goods reported a jump of 45.0% year-on-year, reaching 525.4 thousand tons for the month, up from 362.4 thousand tons in the same month of the year prior. The number of containers noted a year-on-year expansion of 62.4%, recording 56,885 containers in April2025, up from 35,035 containers in April 2024, according to data from PoB. Additionally, transshipments through PoB noted a year-on-year increase of 26.2% between April 2024 and April 2025, reaching 14,744 containers in the latter up from 11,680 containers in the former. In parallel, the number of ships recorded at PoB during April 2025 reached 111 ships, marking a year-on-year decrease of 15.9%, down from 132 ships in the same month of the previous year.
