INDONESIA PUTS 75 OIL AND GAS BLOCKS UP FOR AUCTION TO BOOST DOMESTIC OUTPUT

Indonesia is offering 75 oil and gas blocks for exploration and development, primarily located in the eastern regions such as Maluku and Papua, as part of its strategy to boost domestic energy production and attract investment. Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Yuliot Tanjung stated that 61 of these blocks are currently open for auction under production sharing contracts (PSC), while others are either awarded or being prepared. Notable blocks include Central Andaman, Seram-Aru, and Cendrawasih Bay II and III. The initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s goal of increasing crude oil output to 1 million barrels per day, up from the current 630,000 bpd, and enhancing natural gas production to achieve energy self-sufficiency. In addition to the active auctions, the government has identified 14 more potential areas for future bidding, signaling long-term commitment to upstream development. This move complements broader efforts to diversify Indonesia’s energy mix while accelerating its transition to renewables. The focus on underexplored eastern regions reflects a strategic shift toward tapping into untapped reserves and leveraging regional development. The government is also investing in regulatory reforms and infrastructure to support exploration, aiming to solidify Indonesia’s role as a key energy player in Southeast Asia.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-puts-75-oil-and-gas-blocks-up-for-auction-to-boost-domestic-output (ICE GIACARTA)
