EXPORT CONTAINER TRANSPORT RESUMES FROM ICDS TO CTG PORT AS CUSTOMS OFFICERS END

Export operations at Chattogram Port, the country’s largest seaport, have resumed after customs officials ended their shutdown protest, which began on Saturday due to demands for the resignation of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman. Customs officers returned to work following an announcement that their positions were deemed "essential services" by the interim government. This allowed customs clearance of export goods to restart at the Inland Container Depots (ICDs). Md Omar Faruk, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority, confirmed that operations are expected to normalize soon. Protests ended after officials agreed to return, and customs activities at multiple locations began again around 8 PM. Mohammad Ruhul Amin Sikder of the Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association noted efforts to move at least 2,000 TEUs of stuck export containers to the port overnight. Clearing and forwarding agents also resumed their duties, with expectations for full operations to restart by Monday. Prior to the resolution, over 3,000 containers were stranded onboard and around 4,000 at the depots, impacting the departure of at least four vessels. Currently, 10 container vessels are at the port while 19 more await at the outer anchorage. (ICE NEW DELHI)
