EAEU countries identify 4 key areas for agricultural cooperation - EEC ministerMember states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have identified priority areas for developing cooperative ties in the agricultural sector, EEC board member and Industry and Agriculture Minister Goar Barseghyan said during the Russian Field Day in the Volgograd region on Friday."We will develop cooperation through support measures in four key areas - seed production, livestock farming, processing and agricultural logistics. These are vital sectors for the industry," Barseghyan said.This work follows instructions from heads of government, she said. "Recently, the prime ministers tasked us with strengthening the development of cooperation within the EAEU," she said.Initial project proposals have already emerged "regarding sugar beet hybrids, hatching eggs and agricultural logistics," she said. The first progress report at the level of prime ministers is planned for this autumn. "By my estimates, with intensive work, the mechanism could be operational within a year, significantly boosting EAEU competitiveness and reducing import dependence," she said.Barseghyan also said that the EAEU's current agricultural self-sufficiency level is 92%. "However, in my view, the full potential remains untapped. We still have substantial work ahead," she said. (ICE ALMATY)
