Kazakhstan to sign memorandum on railway construction in Afghanistan soon – PMKazakhstan is ready to invest in the construction of the Turgundi-Herat railway in Afghanistan, with the corresponding memorandum to be signed in the near future, the government press service reports.Plans for the railway construction were discussed by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar at the Economic Cooperation Organization summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan."Afghanistan is a bridge between Central and South Asia. The construction of the Trans-Afghan railway will contribute to the development of the entire region. The government confirms its intentions to implement this project, and the relevant memorandum will be signed between the parties in the near future," Bektenov is quoted as saying in the press release.As previously reported, in April this year, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan signed a letter of intent confirming Astana's interest in participating in the construction of the Turgundi - Herat - Kandahar - Spin Boldak railway. Kazakhstan is prepared to invest $500 million in the Afghan railway project. A logistics and transport company is also planned to be established in Herat to promote the project. (ICE ALMATY)
