IT'S TIME FOR BIOMASS TO MOVE UP A CLASS TO SUPPORT NATIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH
Biomass plays a crucial role in achieving energy independence and driving Indonesia's economic growth. This was emphasized by Satya Widya Yudha, Advisory Board of the Indonesian Biomass Energy Society (MEBI) and the Jury Board of IBEA 2025, following the inauguration of the new MEBI management. According to Satya, biomass is not just an alternative energy, but is an integral part of the national energy self-sufficiency strategy, with the potential to reach 32-35 gigawatts. However, biomass development faces major challenges, including the wide distribution of resources, infrastructure needs, and guarantees of sustainable raw material supplies. In the context of President-elect Prabowo Subianto's vision of 8% economic growth, biomass is considered capable of strengthening the energy sector and local economy. Biomass can be a bridge between large industries that require stable clean energy and local MSMEs that can be involved in the supply chain. Satya also highlighted four main challenges in biomass development: Involvement in the global supply chain, Large investment requirements, Availability of skilled labor, Mastery of innovative technology. If these challenges are overcome, biomass will be a force that supports the energy transition, creates economic added value, opens up jobs, and strengthens national energy security. Satya hopes that MEBI under the new leadership can prioritize national interests and become a solution to the challenges of national development. (ICE GIACARTA)
