Agriculture Ministry denies rumors of anthrax-infected meat brought to AstanaInformation circulating on social media about the alleged import of anthrax-infected meat to Astana's markets does not correspond to reality, stated the Ministry of Agriculture."To date, no instances of contaminated products being supplied or sold have been recorded in Astana or in the capital's markets, including the Alem market. All supplies undergo mandatory veterinary and sanitary inspection; there is no cause for concern," said a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture's press service. The ministry emphasized that in the Atbasar district of the Akmola region, where cases of anthrax among animals were previously registered, comprehensive disinfection has already been completed."Potentially dangerous products have been seized and disposed of in full compliance with sanitary standards. Residents are undergoing medical examinations," the statement noted. As previously reported, anthrax was detected in five people in the Atbasar district of the Akmola region; they are hospitalized in stable condition. Nine samples were taken from the site of animal slaughter and grazing, three of which tested positive.Anthrax is a dangerous infectious disease. The causative agent of anthrax, Bacillus anthracis, forms spores that are highly resistant to physical and chemical environmental factors. These spores can persist in the soil for decades without losing their properties. The source of anthrax for humans is infected and deceased farm animals, as well as contaminated raw materials and products of animal origin. (ICE ALMATY)
